When you want to make an Engravingmachine , you must make a choice : HOW.
I have draw several machines and i tell the good and the bad side of each machine.

The orange parts are the leadings.

1)

The first machine is a good one for someone who want to start to build his first machine. The cutter spindle moves in X and Z direction.

Good :

    -Easy to make
    -Stable

Bad :

* because your product moves

    -You can not engrave heavy weight material , because your stepper must keep the product on position

    -The size of engrave is not so big

The seccond machine is also a good one for someone who want to start to build his first machine. The cutter spindle moves only in Z direction and your product to engrave moves in X and Y direction.

Good :

    -Easy to make

    -When the X and Y ax are not 90 degrees with the Z ax , he will engraves everywhere the same depth.

Bad :

-because your product moves

    --You can not engrave heavy weight material , because your stepper must keep the product on position

    --The size of engrave is not so big

-not so stable as machine 1, because when your product is heavy and you must engrave at the end of the Y ax , your product will moves your table below

3)

The third machine is more complicated for someone who want to start to build his first machine. The cutter spindle moves  in all directions .

Good :

    when you engrave very big nameplates, you can place the machine on your material. So you can engrave plates of 3 m X 3meter.

Bad :

    -not so easy to make the machine stable

    -the y leading must be very stable and precisely.

 4)

The fourth machine is also a good one for someone who want to start to build his first machine. The cutter spindle moves in X , Y and Z direction and your product to engrave don’t move.

Good :

    -It’s good to make

    -your product length in Y direction is not limited.

    -very good for engrave electronic print cirquit boards.

Bad :

    -you must use good leadings for the y ax, because he can easy turnover.
