Here below you see a few types.

This is a standard self centered 3 jaw chuck.
3_klauw_zelf_centrerend
Most used on a hobby Lathe
You can clamp massive products. ( also pipes but not so good )
Most capable for round, hexagonal and triangle shaped products

Good: Clamp your product fast.

Bad: Your product is never exactly in the middle

This is a standard self centered 3 jaw chuck with a possibility to place your product exact in center.

You can clamp massive products. ( also pipes but not so good )
Most capable for round, hexagonal
and triangle shaped products

Good: Clamp your product fast.
Your product is always exactly in the middle 0.003mm

How does it works.

Well that’s easy
“C” is the “normal” jaw chuck and is mounted to “B” ( not tight )
Plate “A” is fixed to the machine. “B” is fixed to “A”
With screw “D” ( there are 3 around ) you can shift “C” with regard to “B” for about 0.2mm
Screw “D” is a screw with a conical surface like here below.

This is a standard 4 jaw independent chuck.
4_klauw_onafhankelijk
You can clamp massive products. ( also pipes but not so good , but better then with 3 jaws )
Most capable for round and square shaped products

Good :
* With some practice you can clamp your product exactly in the middle
* You can clamp heavy products.
* You can clamp your product far out the middle. ( make a contra weight )
